Just what the doctor ordered

BOULDER, Colo. - Below are notes and quotes from the Buffaloes' game against Miami (Ohio).

*** The temperature at kickoff was 79 degrees. The announced attendance was 45,243.

*** After nearly getting shut out against Florida State and only scoring one offensive touchdown the week before against Arizona State, Colorado got a chance to tee off against a lesser opponent on Saturday afternoon. The Buffs racked up 634 yards of offense, while shutting the RedHawks out. The final score read 42-0.

"I think our guys really found out last week that we're there," CU head coach Dan Hawkins said after the game. "[They are] really getting tired of the 'new coach, new system, new players, freshman' and all of that. Now we're a football team and ready to go. So let's go."

*** Saturday was a day of firsts for many Buffs. True freshman offensive linemen Ryan Miller and Kai Maiava both made their college debut. Maiava went in for the first time with 1:18 remaining in the first quarter when Devin Head suffered a neck stinger. Miller subbed in for Edwin Harrison, who also went down with a minor injury with 13:05 left in the second quarter. Head and Harrison both returned to the game.

*** True freshman linebacker Nate Vaiomounga also saw his first college action on Saturday. He was in primarily on kickoff coverage but did take the field for at least one defensive play. Vaiomounga strained his hamstring in the game and is listed as day-to-day.
