The Rutgers Freshman Report
Some of the Scarlet Knight newcomers saw their first extensive action of the season last weekend against Norfolk State. Here's a look at how the freshmen who won't be wearing red shirts this year have fared three games into the season.
Davis had an excellent training camp and was the first freshman to see significant playing time. Davis, who spells Kevin Haslam at right guard, has trimmed down to his desired weight of 330 pounds and looks to be improving every week. He could continue to challenge Haslam for more playing time as the year wears on.
Up until the Norfolk State game, Robinson was used strictly on the punt team. He finally got the chance to show what he can do in the backfield, gaining 58 yards on 9 carries. Robinson showed some nice moves and proved that he could be an adequate backup to Ray Rice now that Kordell Young will be sidelined for the rest of the season. Robinson also returned 3 punts for a total of 18 yards.
Playing for the longest stretch of time against Norfolk State, Lefeged finished tied for third on the team in tackles with 5. The freshman did a nice job of coming up from his safety position and stopping the run. He showed the ability to not only read the play, but also displayed the capability of finishing with a big hit.
