Media day notebook: Happy to be home
The Missouri Tigers will play at Faurot Field this weekend. Finally. Three weeks into the season, the Tigers are at home for the first time.
"I was talking to the staff today and I don't ever remember since I've been coaching our first home game was the third game," Gary Pinkel said. "I'd have to look at the numbers, but since we named it the Zou, I think those numbers are getting better and better and working in our favor of protecting that place and making it a very difficult place to play. We've got great fans and if we do the things on the field to cause the enthusiasm and the excitement, then our fans are absolutely as good as anybody."
Tiger fans proved that to the team last week in Oxford, Mississippi. There was a strong contingent of black and gold at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
"The turnout that we had at Ole Miss was absolutely outstanding. Our players are very appreciative of that, too," Pinkel said. "The second you walked out of that locker room and see two sections filled with Mizzou people, that was a great statement there. We're very pleased that they're getting involved and following us and that's a big deal."
"Usually we got like the one little small box section, but we had like two huge sections of fans there," Lorenzo Williams said.
