Warren stars shine

WARREN, Ark. - A four-team jamboree at Warren on Monday night featured at least a dozen Division I athletes and plenty of good high school football.

Warren, Camden Fairview and Bearden all went 2-1 while Texarkana finished 0-3. Each of the four teams played the other one quarter. The records really didn't matter that much since, for instance, when Fairview lost to Bearden they only played their starters one series on each side of the football. The other teams did the same thing in various games.

The highlight of the night was the finale when Fairview handed Warren its lone loss of the night 7-0. It was a game that saw both teams play their starters and had seven Arkansas commitments on the field at one time.

In that game, the big play was when Fairview's vaunted defense held Warren on a fourth-down try at the Warren 30. The Cardinals then faced a fourth down of their own at the Lumberjacks 29. On fourth down, Fairview quarterback Jim Youngblood, 6-3 1/2, 216, 4.69 seconds in the 40-yard dash, raced 17 yards to the Warren 12. On the next play, tailback De'Anthony Curtis, 5-10, 209, 4.41, scored from the 12 on a sweep around left end.
