Aggies hit Kyle Field for first scrimmage
Texas A&M had a day off Sunday, but Monday the Aggies got back into August camp with a scrimmage at Kyle Field. It was only the first scrimmage for the Aggies, but the coaching staff was able to find some good things and some other things left to work on.
"All we did was a walkthrough this morning indoors, and then our entire practice was in the stadium, tonight. We scrimmaged about 50 snaps I guess, 45-50 snaps. We did a lot of other things other than scrimmage too," said A&M head coach Dennis Franchione. "The scrimmage was probably what you'd expect for the first one, a little up and down. I thought the defense had probably more good plays than the offense by far, and they got a few turnovers tonight. The offense had too many penalties, but they did some good things too. It was just too inconsistent and up and down, which is not unusual for the first one. There were some good hits today and some good plays and some enthusiastic things for a coach to look at and be excited about, but we got a lot of work to do and we need every day we've got before we play a game."
The Aggie offense has been all the rage in the media heading into the season with nine returning starters returning, a healthy Stephen McGee taking snaps and a slew of running backs with 1,000-yard potential running behind a senior-dominated offensive line.
Monday's scrimmage, however, was much more about the defense.
