PRACTICE NOTEBOOK: ASU gets camp underway

Friday afternoon marked the beginning of preparations for the 2007 football season, as the Appalachian State Mountaineers hit the field in shorts and helmets. After a brief rainstorm to start the day off, temperatures quickly climbed to the mid-80s, however, players appeared to settle in to the rigors of an early August practice.

ASU head coach Jerry Moore was pleased with the season's first practice, one that lasted nearly two hours and 45 minutes.

"It was a really good first day," Moore said. "It's just about as good of a first day as we've had here. Jeff Dillman and his staff did a great job this summer and the players came in here in good shape. We came in planning to have them run four of what we call 'fifths' (Players are grouped by position lining up outside the out-of-bounds line with 50 yards between each group and run a full lap around the field) and we only ran three because of the effort they gave."
