When Pete Carroll recruits an out-of-state prospect he takes a calculated risk that the 18-year-old star is ready to leave the comforts of home and focus on academics and football.
Over the past couple years, Carroll has had a few of his star players seriously consider leaving the team because they were homesick. Stars like Dwayne Jarrett, Patrick Turner and Fred Davis all struggled through their first year on campus.
So when Joe McKnight left the team for a week this summer to return home to see his friends and family, he got some shocking advice from them.
"They said don't come back," McKnight recalled his family's advice on Cromwell Field after an early morning throwing session.
