Davison talks commitment
On Wednesday, BadgerBlitz.com caught up with one of the biggest surprises of the 2008 recruiting cycle to date, Wisconsin verbal commitment Zach Davison of Waukee, Iowa.
Before a camp appearance in Madison last week, Davison was just a small blip on the Badgers' radar screen. But after a strong camp performance - at both defensive end and tight end - the 6-foot-5 225-pounder earned an offer. Davison quickly made his decision, giving Bret Bielema his verbal pledge this past Saturday.
In the following, the two-star Davison talks to this site about why he chose Madison, Wis., as his academic and athletic future
If you could, please bring me up to speed about how your commitment went down this past week?
I went up to camp on Sunday night, last Sunday, and met with Coach (Mike) Hankwitz and I got introduced to Coach (Bret) Bielema and I talked with them a little bit. And I watched their, I think it was their three-day campers, and then went to the hotel and then came back the next day for the camp and we did some testing. I did pretty well in that, just standard testing, like 40 (yard dash) time. And then we broke up and I did tight end drills and I did pretty well on those. And then I ended up switching over and going with the defensive line, and I think that's where I really got a lot of attention. With our pass rush, I did pretty well with that, and the coaches, I think, really liked that. And when camp was over I talked to Coach Bielema and he said, 'Give me a call when you get your ACT scores,' so I did. I called him last Friday - I got my ACT scores last Thursday - called him on Friday morning and let him know I got a 23 on my ACT and it was then he told me that he was going to offering me a scholarship and that's kind of how it went.
