Mike Cruz may be from up North, but when it comes to football his passion lies directly in the South.
"I love football down South," Cruz told Tigerillustrated.com. "You got to love football down South. They are all about football there."
The 6-foot-4, 255-pound tight end has a dozen offers, including a few from below the Mason-Dixon Line, namely ones from Clemson and Florida State.
When does the ex-Pitt commit plan on visiting those programs?
"I've already been to West Virginia, Pitt and Penn State and I'm planning to head down to Clemson and then to Florida State in late June or early July," he noted.
What are his thoughts on the ACC schools that will battle on Labor Day night?
Clemson - "(Tight ends) coach (Billy) Napier is real cool. I like him a lot. Their fan base is crazy. They have a good reputation as a program, too."
Florida State - "Just playing in the South they play at a high-level and have a strong tradition."
What's the Johnstown (PA) Bishop McCort standout looking for in a school?
"I want to get a good education," the Keystone State product said. "I want to be able to get a chance to play, hopefully early and I'd like it to be somewhat close to home."
Does anyone lead right now?
"Over the summer I'm going to try and take a good look at all of my options," the versatile athlete detailed. "After my visits I'll try and narrow it down. Everyone is pretty even right now."
Cruz has a 3.0 GPA and scored an 870 on the SAT.
Last season he caught 21 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively he registered 31 tackles, five sacks and an interception.
