Hot 11 ASU players
The first week of Arizona State's spring practices has concluded. After four practices, including one scrimmage, it's time for an initial edition of our Hot 11, which is essentially a detailed look at the 11 players making the biggest impression on us to this point in the spring. Two players who sat out last season top our list.
Troy Nolan -- a JUCO transfer and former teammate of Justin Tryon and Jonathan Johnson, Nolan arrived at ASU for the spring semester in 2006 but did not play last season due to a knee injury that led to muscle atrophy in his quadriceps. He fortunately had a redshirt year, and is still a junior eligibility-wise. It wasn't expected that Nolan would be among the top three safeties on the roster, but with Josh Barrett sitting out spring ball to this point, Nolan has elevated to the first-team, and he looked good throughout the first week, culminating with his outstanding performance on Saturday when he had a forced fumble and an interception. Nolan is physical with good size and speed, and he reacts very well to the play. With Barrett, Jeremy Payton, Ryan McFoy and Nolan, the Sun Devils appear to have a very solid top four at the position.
