Spring Preview: Running Backs

Arizona State returns all five of its top running backs from a team that finished second in the Pac-10 last season with 2,206 rushing yards on 497 attempts (4.4 yards per carry), or 169.7 yards per game. The team was led by Ryan Torain, who became the first Sun Devil to rush for over 1,000 yards since Delvon Flowers accomplished the feat in 2001.

In his first season with the program post-transfer from Butler Community College, the 6-foot, 216 pound Kansas-native carried the football 223 times for 1,229 yards and seven touchdowns, earning second-team all-conference honors -- an extraordinary accomplishment to be sure.
