Smith's final three

After bringing in just one linebacker in the 2006 class, the Cal football staff knows how important it is for their program to replenish the LB corps. Plenty of young LB talent is still on the roster, including 2005 Rivals Freshman All-American's Anthony Felder and Zack Follett, both of whom will be juniors in 2007. Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft high school linebacker Malcolm Smith - one of the premier athletes in the country - is of the same mold as Felder, and the Bears want the SoCal stud in Blue & Gold.

Standing a stout 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, Smith, the younger brother of USC wide receiver Steve Smith, certainly has a plethora of schools knocking on his door. Rated as the third best athlete in the nation, and one the of the top-100 players in the nation overall, Smith is one of the most highly recruited players in Los Angeles.

Smith's senior statistics only tell some of the reason why colleges love his skill set. After suffering a significant ankle injury in the first game of the 2006 season, Smith returned to 100 percent in Taft's 7th game.
