What is Alabama looking for in a head coach?
Less than a day had passed since Rich Rodriguez's numbing rejection when the question was posed to Alabama defensive end Wallace Gilberry.
Which characteristics must an individual possess in order to succeed as the head coach of the Crimson Tide?
"You have to be a cut above," Gilberry replied. "You have to have people skills and be able to work well with others. You have to have good character and have class.
"This is a class A program. Sometimes we have guys who slip up and make it look like it's class B, but even those guys know what this program is supposed to be about."
Of course, there is no right or wrong answer to the question. Gilberry was on target with his assessment, just as the junior would have been had he said organizational skills or the ability to motivate were most important.
