MADISON, Wis. - John Settle has confidence in his trio of running backs.
In the Wisconsin Badgers' victory over Bowling Green, 35-14, this past Saturday, redshirt freshman P.J. Hill, senior Dywon Rowan and freshman Lance Smith combined for 199 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Despite only six games of experience amongst them - all played by Rowan, who carried the ball just 13 times last season - the trio played with confidence, which has Settle believing his group has a very strong season ahead of them.
"I think those guys we have right now - the one, two and three - are great change-up people," said Settle, who is in his first season as the Badgers' running backs coach.
"You know, you got one guy for pounding then the other guy comes in, maybe not as swift, but you have to wrap him up and tackle or you'll slide off, and then Lance comes in and, bang. You know a lot of different speeds. So, the defenses are going to have a lot of problems adjusting to each guy."
As Settle says, Hill pounded BGSU defenders. At times it seemed he'd never come down with his ability to drag defenders while gaining extra yardage. He only lost three yards the whole evening.
