Dickerson makes move to RB
Pitt head coach Dave Wannstedt and running backs coach Dave Walker are always on the lookout for prospective running backs. In the 2007 class, they have been looking at backs with size like Doug Hogue, 6-3, 210 pounds, and Greg Williams, 6-2, 205 pounds. This week, rather than look around in Florida or New York for that running back, Wannstedt and Walker simply looked down the hall to the wide receivers meeting room where freshman Dorin Dickerson has been.
On Thursday, Dickerson took part in his first workouts as a running back at Pitt. Since he was a running back in high school, Walker knew what the 6-2, 217-pounder could do out of the backfield. Now he'll have the chance to see it happen in a Pitt uniform.
"We were fighting for him during recruiting," Walker said with a laugh on Thursday. "I'd love to have him as part of our group and [wide receivers coach] Aubrey Hill would love to have him. The thing about Dorin is he's a good enough athlete and a smart enough kid that he can handle both if that's what his role ends up being."
