Big shoes to fill
Who will step up to replace four-year starters Willie Andrews and Maurice Lane? Surely the safety duo will be hard to replace, they were only two of the best in the backfield while in Waco.
Andrews was known for his ability to make the spectacular play from his rover spot, and Lane was Mr. Consistency at free. Now Baylor is looking for a couple of players that can come in and take on the task of replacing the two defensive leaders.
Coach Larry Hoefer may have hated to see the talented tandem go, but there are some qualified replacements out there.
Dwain Crawford leads the way for the spot vacated by Maurice Lane, but will be pushed hard by Jordan Lake. At rover, JC transfer Brandon Stiggers leads the way with Jake LaMar and Marlon Price hoping to take the spot from him.
Lost in all the talk is the return of four-year starter Maurice Linguist. Linguist has been a fixture at outside safety since arriving in 2003. He is being backed up by Jeremy Williams who shows the kind of ability to log meaningful minutes in 2006.
