Practice report: Pinkel in on the action

The Tigers put the pads on and the intensity ratcheted up a notch on Wednesday morning. As always, was right alongside for all the action. The biggest hit of the day put somebody on the ground, but it wasn't one of the Tiger players. More on that later.

*Marcus Woods was wearing the full-on red jersey (downgraded from the red tank top) and was completely held out of drills. He also had a soft walking cast on. Afterward, Gary Pinkel said the cast was to get Woods some rest and he did not anticipate it would stay on more than a couple of days. There were no other players added to the injury list at the start of practice.

*During one-on-one receiving drills, tight end Chase Coffman used his eight-inch height advantage to go up over Trenile Washington for an acrobatic grab. Fellow tight end Martin Rucker commented, "Why you all put that little dude on him? Why you do that to him?"

*Spent a lot of time watching one-on-one drills between the offensive and defensive lines. Right now, the defensive line is well ahead in that race. The Tiger offensive front should get plenty better in the next month going up against these guys. Lorenzo Williams looks like a whole new player. He's gonna be great.

*Paul Simpson worked at safety in the spring, but he was playing cornerback today. It appeared that Simpson is probably the fourth corner in the rotation behind Terrell, Johnson and Washington.

*William Moore was all over the field in 11-on-11 drills. He is strong in run support, but also plenty athletic to play the back line in pass coverage. He made play after play.
