Walkup focusing on rehab

Deer Park small forward Nathan Walkup has had his ups and downs this summer. First, Walkup burst onto the recruiting scene with impressive early performances during the AAU season, which led to an offer and subsequent commitment to Texas A&M.

Walkup continued to impress basketball experts and recruiters with his play throughout the summer, leading to his recent jump into the Top 150 at No. 137. All seemed right on track when Walkup traveled to Las Vegas for the last AAU event of the year.

However, things don't always go as planned.

"I rolled my ankle in the first five minutes of the first game," Walkup said.

The big question for Deer Park fans and Aggie fans is how serious is the injury?

"I'm in a hard cast up to my knee. The doctor says I need to wear it three months," Walkup said.

The 6-foot-6, 190-pound wing insisted that the injury will not set him back significantly and he'll be ready for the regular season at Deer Park.
