Scott on the fast track; Tuesday notes
On just Day 2 of training camp, Purdue's entire roster - newcomers and veterans both - came together, much sooner than they would have in years past.
The rationale behind the quick merger, from the coaching staff's perspective, was to throw the team's new faces into the mix swiftly, knowing some of them, particularly those in the secondary, will have to play right away.
That is especially true in the case of safety Justin Scott, a junior college transfer brought in to potentially start immediately at a position of paramount need.
Scott might truly be on the fast track, playing free safety.
"I'm learning everything pretty quickly," Scott said, "and eventually, I'm really going to catch on and hopefully start rotating in with the starters."
Right now, Scott's seeing mainly third-team action, but that is very much subject to change in a defensive backfield whose depth chart may be worth only the paper it's printed on.
Incoming players - along with Scott, there's cornerbacks Royce Adams and Jonte Lindsey, among other candidates for early P.T. - will factor heavily into the mix, the impetus behind Tuesday's rapid integration.
