42 Days 'til Kickoff: Davis works to return
If it's up to Jon Davis, naturally, he'll be playing on August 31 when Iowa State kicks off the 2006 season against Toledo. But at this point, the senior wide receiver knows it may or may not come together that way for him over the next six weeks. But if Davis isn't ready to go on opening night, he'll still feel good about his rehab effort since snapping an Achilles tendon in spring ball.
After catching 41 passes as a junior and 89 over the last two seasons, Davis certainly figured to be an integral part of the Cyclone offense in '06. But the spring injury put a dent in those expectations and the Papillion, Nebraska, product knows he'll have some work to do to get back into the ISU line-up.
"There's a feeling in my mind that I am falling behind the other guys, when I go watch them play 7-on-7 and whatever," Davis said. "Myself, I don't want to miss any games but if the doctors and trainers say I need more time, I'll have to sit out. They're saying that's possible early on. But it changes week to week based on how I am doing."
