Dawgs release Depth Chart

Mikey Henderson drew rave reviews after moving from cornerback to receiver during spring practice, but he's still got work to do on the Bulldogs' depth chart at flanker.

On the Bulldogs' recently-released depth chart going into preseason camp, Henderson is the No. 3 flanker behind sophomore starter Kenneth Harris and junior A.J. Bryant. Henderson, who caught the only offensive touchdown during G-Day, is ahead of redshirt freshman Mike Moore heading into August.

The Bulldogs' current depth chart doesn't include any of the freshmen who enrolled this summer. As preseason camp commences, the likes of Tony Wilson and Prince Miller will enter the depth chart.

Over at split end, sophomore Mohamed Massaquoi is ahead of senior Mario Raley, sophomore Demiko Goodman, junior T.J. Gartrell and true freshman Kris Durham respectively.

The quarterback depth chart is unchanged as senior Joe Tereshinski is ahead of sophomore Blake Barnes, redshirt freshman Joe Cox and true freshman Matthew Stafford.

At tailback, Thomas Brown is the starter ahead of Kregg Lumpkin and Danny Ware, who are currently designated to be the co-No. 2s at tailback. Though he missed spring practice with a shoulder injury, sophomore Brannan Southerland will be the starting fullback heading into August with juniors Des Williams and Jason Johnson sharing the No. 2 spot behind him.

Things are especially thin on the offensive line where senior Daniel Inman's listed as the starter at tight tackle and the back-up at split tackle where senior Ken Shackleford is starting. Senior Michael Turner, Inman's back-up at tight tackle, will start the first two games while Inman serves a two-game suspension. Junior Chester Adams is the starter at tight guard with sophomore Seth Watts backing him up. Juniors Fernando Velasco and Zeb McKinzey are listed as the co-starters at split guard, but Velasco's actually ahead of McKinzey going into preseason camp.

Though senior Nick Jones is the starting center, an injury to him in the first two games could spell trouble for the Bulldogs. The No. 2 center, sophomore Ian Smith is suspended for the first two games, making true freshman Kevin Perez the team's only other center for the first two games. Perez, who never played center before spring practice, currently weighs 260 pounds, 35 less than Jones and Smith.

At tight end, senior Martrez Milner has the starting job in hand ahead of sophomore Tripp Chandler. Behind Chandler, juniors Trahern Holden and Coleman Watson fill out the depth chart at tight end.

Not surprisingly, junior Charles Johnson and senior Quentin Moses are the starting defensive ends with redshirt freshman Roderick Battle behind Johnson and junior Marcus Howard backing-up Moses. Sophomore Jeremy Lomax, who weighs in at around 235 pounds, is also backing-up Moses.

Senior Ray Gant and sophomore Jeff Owens are the starting defensive tackles. Both sophomore Kade Weston and true freshman Ricardo Crawford are set to back-up Owens. Senior Dale Dixson is currently slated to back-up Gant with senior Marquis Elmore also being a possibility.

It's pretty crowded for the Bulldogs at linebacker where four freshmen will be competing for time during preseason camp. When those freshmen arrive, they'll be vying for time in a group where junior Brandon Miller's the starter at Sam linebacker, senior Jarvis Jackson at the Mike and senior Tony Taylor at the Will. According to the depth chart, versatile senior Danny Verdun should back-up Miller at the Sam with sophomore Marcus Washington behind Jackson and sophomore Dannell Ellerbe at the Will. Ellerbe will miss the first three games of the season while serving a suspension.

Junior Paul Oliver's the starter at wide corner after two years of reserve duty. He'll be backed-up by sophomore Ramarcus Brown heading into August. Over at short corner, junior Thomas Flowers is the current starter behind a pair of freshmen, Asher Allen and Bryan Evans. Allen, a true freshman, is ahead of Evans going into preseason camp.

The replacement for the departed Greg Blue, junior Kelin Johnson, heads into preseason camp as the starter at free safety ahead of sophomore C.J. Byrd and redshirt freshman Antavious Coates. Coates is returning from a knee injury that kept him out all of last season.

Senior Tra Battle's the starter at rover with redshirt freshman Donovan Baldwin backing him up coming of a redshirt year.

On special teams, senior punter Gordon Ely-Kelso and place kicker Brandon Coutu not surprisingly are retaining their positions. Either Ely-Kelso or sophomore Brian Mimbs could see duty as the holder on extra points and field goals.

At punt returner, Thomas Flowers is backed-up in order by Henderson and Allen. Ramarcus Brown and Thomas Brown will start preseason camp as the Bulldogs' kickoff returners.
