Young LBs to provide needed depth in Athens

When most freshmen tread into the rough and tumble world of college football, there is at times doubt to whether or not they'll get a chance to make waves within their new team early on. The quartet of linebackers that'll arrive in Athens this summer however, is an exception to the rule.

With just five scholarship linebackers available, Georgia has an immediate need for linebackers to contribute, swinging the door wide-open for signees Darryl Gamble (6-2, 215), Akeem Hebron (6-1, 195), Akeem Dent (6-3, 210) and Darius Dewberry (6-3, 211).

"We had a need for speed. And with this class coming in, we feel like we've added that," said Georgia linebackers coach John Jancek in an exclusive interview with UGASports.com. "I feel like all of them will be able to come in here and compete in August."

Dewberry's already being projected to play Sam linebacker with the other three expected to contribute at either Sam or the other outside linebacker position, the Will.

"We feel like we're bringing some good linebackers," Jancek said. "Now, they've got to adjust to a higher level of competition."

Jancek is glad to have all four within the program not only for their athletic prowess, but their ability to provide depth as well.
