Boyle discusses decision
This week, Dowling Catholic quarterback Ryan Boyle made it official and gave his verbal commitment to the Iowa Hawkeyes. We caught up with the 6-foot-1, 215-pound Boyle to talk in-depth about his decision, what led him to choose Iowa, and how he sees himself fitting into the Hawkeye offense. Read what he had to say right here.
Q: Why did you pick Iowa?
BOYLE: From my visits up there, I really got to know the coaches up there and really built up my relationship with Coach Davis. He was the one I spent the most time with. The whole program had a lot going for it with the strength and conditioning with Coach Doyle. I fell in love with it every time I went back there.
Q: What made you finally decide you wanted to commit to Iowa?
BOYLE: With all the visits I made down there, I would talk about them with my parents. I realized that Iowa was the top pick for me. I decided to pick them and it was a good choice.
Q: When did you first end up committing to them?
BOYLE: I went down to their first practice on Wednesday and got there around 3:30. I sat in with the quarterback meeting with Coach Davis. I watched practice at the indoor facilities. I pulled Coach Davis aside and told him I was committing. Shortly after, I told Coach Ferentz.
As a junior, Boyle completed 119 of 187 (63.6%) pass attempts for 1,833 yards and 21 touchdowns with only three interceptions. On the ground, he also racked up 1,332 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns during Dowling's undefeated run to the state championship in Class 4A.
