Freeze talking Mississippi State

Ole Miss has a lot riding on this weekend's Egg Bowl.

Not only are the Rebels seeking to end Mississippi State's three year claim on the Golden Egg Trophy but are also seeking bowl eligibility for the first time since 2009. A win this weekend would give them both.

"Obviously we're very excited," said Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze. "It's a game that means a lot to our kids and to our fans across the state. There is a lot riding on it for us. It's not just the bragging rights that this game carries but also fighting to become bowl eligible. We're proud of the effort our kids gave last week down at LSU and I think our kids will be ready for this week."

A victory over their instate rival would also be the first for the Rebels against MSU head coach Dan Mullen, who is 3-0 against Ole Miss since arriving in Starkville in 2009. Mullen has often been boisterous in some of his comments concerning the Rebels always referring to them as "the school up north". Following their 31-23 win in Oxford in 2010 Mullen told his team that "we are never losing to this team again".

Freeze however has taken a different approach in his first Egg Bowl as Ole Miss' head coach.
