Bulldogs back in the takeway business
Mississippi State was able to get back in the win column on Saturday snapping a three-game skid and reentered the Top 25 rankings as well.
The Bulldogs improved to 8-3 with a 45-14 win over Arkansas on Saturday after being able to correct some of the mistakes that resulted in three consecutive losses in the previous weeks.
One of the main areas of progress came in winning the turnover battle. During their seven game winning streak to start the season, MSU led the nation at plus-12 in turnover margin but were minus-five during their three game losing streak.
On Saturday against the Razorbacks, State was able to force five turnovers and are back top leading the country at plus-18 for the year.
"I still think we had a couple of errors," said Bulldog head coach Dan Mullen. "The difference in the games were one, we created big plays on defense with all the turnovers and two, when there was an error they didn't result in big plays. It was not the extreme of all the big plays we've had in the last couple of weeks."
But now Mississippi State's focus changes entirely with the start of Egg Bowl week. The Bulldogs have enjoyed three straight victories over instate rival Ole Miss under Mullen's watch. Even with the Rebels fighting for their sixth win to become bowl eligible, Mullen expects to get their best shot every year regardless.
