Five Keys: Maryland
No. 7/8 West Virginia (3-0) recorded a series record seventh straight victory over Maryland (2-2) Saturday at Mountaineer Field and here are WVSports.com's five keys that ultimately led to the victory.
5. Darwin Cook forces a fumble on Marcus Leak. With the score sitting at 24-14 in favor of West Virginia, Maryland had the ball to open the fourth quarter and was moving the football. After a Josh Francis sack on first down, Terrapins quarterback Perry Hills connected with Marcus Leak for a 25-yard connection but redshirt junior safety Darwin Cook was able to poke the ball free before Leak hit the ground and the ball was recovered by Terence Garvin at the Mountaineers 33-yard line. The play gave the Mountaineers not only the ball back, but the momentum.
