James, Illinois weren't the right fit

With the decision on Wednesday that Illinois and Jalen James would go in a different direction, both sides may be better off in the long run.

James, who Rivals ranks as the #89 player in the country, committed to former Illinois head coach Bruce Weber last June after participating in the Illinois one day team camp. Weber has always liked guards with length that can facilitate his motion offense and distribute the ball. John Groce wants a bit more from his guards, and he didn't feel like James was his guy after his play this spring.
