Holmes playing his role

Two years ago Mississippi State fans learned about a linebacker from tiny Puckett, Miss., that had pledged his services to the Bulldogs.

Now those same fans are expecting Christian Holmes to play a vital role on defense this fall after saying goodbye to three senior linebackers.

Holmes got his feet wet after a redshirt season by playing in all 13 games this fall recording 18 tackles including two six tackle performances against UT-Martin and Arkansas.

"I played special teams and backup behind Cam (Lawrence) at will linebacker," Holmes said. "It's mainly been on special teams like punt block and kickoff and kickoff return. I'm just playing my role."

Naturally making the jump from a Class 2A school into the Southeastern Conference was a big one for Holmes. But having a redshirt year to get acclimated helped him adjust to the game around him as well as improve his ability as well.
