Khem-istry headed to the Aggies?

Khem Birch, the 9th overall pick in the Rivals 150 class for 2011, has decided to leave the Pittsburgh Panther basketball team and may be looking at landing a spot on the Aggie basketball roster in 2012.

It's rumored that Birch is also considering transferring to the university of Missouri.

Birch is also considered a future NBA pick by some.

The latest reports of Birch's whereabouts is that he's headed back to his native Canada to sitdown with his family to discuss his future. A future that might land him in Las Cruces.

Canada. Get the connection? The Aggie basketball roster currently has six players on roster hailing from Canada. Assistant coach Paul Weir is from Canada.

In his freshman year at Pitt, Birch Birch was averaging 4.4 points in 15 minutes of play, led the team in blocks and had worked his way into the starting lineup in the last six games.

But before Aggie fans get too excited about the possibility of Khem transferring to NMSU, two sources within the Pitt basketball program said Friday night that they would not be surprised if Birch is talked out of his decision once he returns home. Question is, will head coach Jamie Dixon well him back?

Yet another source indicated Friday night that Birch was more homesick than upset with his playing time or the position he was playing at Pitt.

With seniors Hamidu Rahman and Wendell McKines leaving the program after this season, Khem would be a welcomed addition to the Aggie front-court.

If Birch decides to transfer to NMSU, he must sit out two full semesters in order to be eligible at another NCAA Division I school.
