Bulldogs land Ducksworth

North Forest (Miss.) three-star linebacker Lelland Ducksworth has felt comfortable with Mississippi for quite some time now.

But with the high school season starting to heat up, the 6-foot-1, 215-pounder decided to end his recruitment and focus on his senior year.

"I was pretty comfortable with State in the beginning and have liked State for a while," Ducksworth said. "I wanted to get it out of the back of my head and I wanted to worry about my team."

Ducksworth also had offers from Arkansas State, Jacksonville State, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis, Ole Miss, Southeastern Louisiana and Southern Miss.

"I'm very comfortable with the setting around there," Ducksworth said of his reason for choosing MSU. "The coaches are great. It's just a great environment with the people. I feel like I fit in there. As far as academics, they are pushing their players to work hard and that's very beneficial. My parents like it took and that's great because they can come to my games. All this stuff ties in and it matters."

The Hattiesburg native surprised the Bulldogs coaching staff with his commitment this week.

"I wasn't really sure about the process and actually called my recruiting coach and asked him what should I do about committing," Ducksworth said. "He was like well you do this and you do that. I told him 'no you don't understand, I want to be a Bulldog coach'. He was like 'that's good stuff Lelland'. So we got our stuff together and he told me to call tomorrow to speak to Dan Mullen. I talked to him and a lot of the coaches - Chris Wilson, Coach (Geoff) Collins and Coach (Tony) Hughes and Coach Melvin (Smith). We all got together and talked on the phone. It was just a happy moment."

North Forrest is 1-2 so far on the season. Ducksworth has recorded 29 tackles (18 solo, 11 assists) on defense. Offensively he has carried 18 times for 149 yards and a touchdown and also hauled in a 18-yard pass.

Ducksworth is rated the No.13 player in the state of Mississippi and the 61st outside linebacker nationally by Rivals.com
