Allen interested in Iowa
Even though he has yet to start his sophomore year of high school, Peyton Allen is already generating a buzz among college coaches. The 6-foot-4 guard from Chatham Glenwood High School in Illinois is turning heads this summer on the AAU circuit with the Illinois Wolves.
This spring he headed out to visit several top college programs, including Iowa, and enjoyed his trip to Iowa City.
"The Iowa visit was really great and I had a good time," Allen said. "We sat down and talked to Coach McCaffery for about an hour. He's a really nice guy. Then Coach Francis took us on a tour of the campus. We went to the athlete's academic center and went around the rest of the campus."
He left Iowa City without a scholarship offer, but the Hawkeyes told Allen that he fits their style of play very well and that they would be checking him out during the July evaluation period.
Before the start of the July evaluation period, Allen picked up his first offer from Bradley. He also visited Purdue, Illinois, Michigan, Northwestern, and Ohio State. As a young man growing up in Big Ten country, he is thrilled to be getting looks from those schools.
"I've grown up watching the Big Ten, so being recruited by Big Ten schools is really exciting. It's been great to visit the various campuses and get to know the coaches at those schools."
Allen says this summer he wants to focus on improving every game and most importantly listening to his coaches and helping his Illinois Wolves team win games.
