Bulldogs blowout Auburn
STARKVILLE, Miss., - Mississippi State probably could not have started Sunday afternoon's game any hotter.
The Bulldogs jumped on Auburn right from the start taking an 22-3 lead in the first nine minutes of action and cruised for a 85-66 victory in the 500th game played inside Humphrey Coliseum.
"The main thing was I thought our team came out ready to play," said MSU head coach Rick Stansbury. "I thought the first seven minutes of the game we played fine defense and I think that's the longest we've played it with the lineup that we have."
MSU (10-7, 2-1) shot a sizzling 62-percent from the floor thanks in part to nine rim-rattling alley oop dunks.
"Overall we have a long way to go as a team and it's very obvious there are a lot of things that we have to keep getting better at," Stansbury said. "But again, this was another step in the right direction. We've just got to keep stepping the right way."
11 different Bulldogs were notched in the scoring column led by Ravern Johnson with 21 points. Johnson made 8-of-15 from the floor including a pair of 3-pointers.
