St. Mary's preview

Mississippi State will play the final game of its long 11,701 mile road trip tonight in Las Vegas taking on St. Mary's at 10 p.m. CST.

The Bulldogs began their road swing with a trip to the Bahamas before venturing to Hawaii where they spent the Christmas holidays. The stop in Vegas will be their fifth straight game without returning to Starkville.

It will be MSU's first time in Sin City since 2001 when they defeated Richmond and Illinois-Chicago and lost to Cincinnati in the Las Vegas Classic.

The Bulldogs have only faced St. Mary's one previous time claiming a 67-54 win in 2004 in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in Madison Square Garden in New York. State is 7-2 all-time against teams from the West Coast Conference.

The Bulldogs enter tonight's contest with a 8-5 record having lost three of their last four contests. Rick Stansbury will be without the services of big men Elgin Bailey and Renardo Sidney for the game as they both serve an indefinite suspension for a fight in the stands in Hawaii.

7-foot-1 sophomore center John Riek, who did not make the trip to the Bahamas or Hawaii, is expected to join the team in Las Vegas for the game against the Gaels.
