Harris talks Iowa visit

Tyler Harris and his father have taken their time in the recruiting process trying to find the right fit in a college program. They have slowly cut the list of schools down in the past month and appear to have settled on four schools, with Louisville making a late rush to get into the mix. This past weekend they made their way to the University of Iowa for an official visit and came away impressed.

"The visit to Iowa was very impressive," said Tyler's father, Torrel Harris. "Iowa has a great coaching staff that has a lot of experience. We love the coaches at Iowa."

Harris and his father were also very impressed by the presentation that the Hawkeye coaches put together, from a tour of the Business School to a preview of the new basketball practice facility that is set to open next fall.

"Tyler wants to major in business and they gave us a tour of the Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center. That was very impressive," he said. "We went to the Athlete's Learning Center and that was a very nice place as well. Then we were given a tour of the basketball arena and the new practice facility, where they showed us what it will look like when the facility is finished."

The visit also included dinner at Coach McCaffery's home with the team and plenty of face time with the new Iowa coach and his staff, who laid out their plan for Tyler if he were to come to Iowa.

"He told Tyler that he is the type of player that he is looking for, a long athletic wing player," said the elder Harris. "Coach tells us that he is very versatile and he could play a lot of different positions. He could play like a point forward, the two, the three, or even a face up four. He says he could come in and do extremely well in his program."
The 6-foot-8 three star forward and his father were also impressed with their trip to Kinnick Stadium, where his son was treated to chants from fans encouraging him to come to Iowa.

"That was pretty cool," he said. "We went to the football game and saw 70,000 loyal fans come out in the rain and watch them beat Ball State 45-0. It made a big impression on Tyler and we really enjoyed it."

Before he makes his college choice, which he plans to do in early November, Harris has two other official visits set, with potential two more that could be made.

Harris will visit North Carolina State this coming weekend and then he has an official visit set for October 15th. From there, they will likely make an official visit to St. John's in late October and then possibly make a trip to Louisville the first weekend of November.

Louisville is a late entrant in his recruitment and Coach Rick Pitino is scheduled to be at Tyler's school on Monday following their offer late last week.

"Coach Pitino really likes Tyler, but right now we are focused on the four main schools."

Harris said that they are discussing a November 5th visit to Louisville, but that will not be decided until after meeting with Coach Pitino early this week to see how serious they are about their recruitment.
