CMU eyeing several players to finish 2011 class

The Central Michigan basketball program is still looking to add their next commitment in the 2011 class after Holland West Ottawa (MI) point guard Jorddan Myrick verbally pledged nearly two years ago. Several key targets are looking to decide, but that has not stopped the Chippewas from scouring the nation. Here's an updated list of CMU's 2011 hoops offers and targets.

-F Trey McDonald, Battle Creek Central (MI)

By far the highest profile target remaining, the 6-foot-9 and 230 pound McDonald has drawn early offers from programs all over the country. Central Michigan, Wake Forest, Iowa, Dayton, DePaul and Arkansas are among the programs coveting the talented post player, and he is currently in the process of narrowing down his list.

"I'm working on narrowing it down a little bit, and then I'm going to take a couple of visits," said McDonald. "West Virginia, Marquette and DePaul are now in the picture. The only visit I've set up is Marquette, but I'm working on the other ones. I'll start taking my unofficials on the 17th [of August]" McDonald told

He has visited Central Michigan a few times on unofficial visits, and the Chippewas are thought to still have a shot with him.

F Gary Cooper, Monroe (MI)

-Central Michigan was one of the first programs to offer Cooper, who was flying way under the radar until that point. He also holds offers from St. Bonaventure and Toledo, but the Chippewas are thought to be the leader after Cooper's recent visits to Mount Pleasant.

"I really liked it a lot. I had a chance to be shown around with my mom and we both enjoyed it," added Cooper. "They really care about my education and that's the most important thing, I felt I was a person to them and not just a basketball player."

Cooper has mentioned he is looking to make a decision soon, and the Chippewas would love to add the 6-foot-8 and 211 pound post player.

PG T.J. Buchanan, Kalamazoo Central (MI)

Located directly in the backyard of CMU rival Western Michigan, Buchanan has been closely monitoring his offer list that includes CMU, WMU and Cleveland State. He has set up an official visit to Western Michigan, but also told that we will visit CMU. Helping both CMU and Cleveland State's chances was the Broncos recent commitment of 2012 point guard Jared Klein.

F Anton Grady, Cleveland Catholic Central (OH)

-The 6-8 and 210 pound Grady recently picked up a CMU offer on his official visit on Thursday when he came up for the CMU vs. Hampton football game. He holds offers from numerous programs around the Midwest and the three star prospect was very impressive during the summer playing for the Friends For Life AAU program. At 6-foot-8 and 210 pounds, Grady is an athletic wing who is versatile enough to play numerous positions, and he is considered one of the top players in the state of Ohio.

F Luke Hager, Whitney Young (IL)

-Hager is one of the fastest rising prospects in the Midwest and he earned offers from Central Michigan, TCU, Bradley, Akron, Harvard, Columbia and Penn among others. At 6-foot-7 and 210 pounds, he is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential and he will have a chance to play in his third consecutive state championship game as a senior with powerhouse Whitney Young. Hager is originally from Canton (MI) and has ties to the state of Michigan, and he mentioned that CMU would likely receive a visit.

F Justin Moss, Romulus (MI)

-At 6-foot-6 and 235 pounds, Moss is a throwback forward who can work with his back to the basket or hit from 15ft. In-state programs Oakland and Western Michigan have also offered, as well as Toledo, Bowling Green and Cleveland State. Central Michigan pulled the trigger in July and they are thought to be in good standing with Moss.

Look for updates on the 2011 targets very soon!
