McMinn confident in his decision
With great size and speed, defensive end Riley McMinn has been racking up scholarship offers all year, but it was the most recent one that really caught his eye. That came from the Iowa Hawkeyes and after visiting campus, the 6-foot-7, 220-pound McMinn decided that he had found a home. The three-star prospect talks about his decision and much more.
Q: Which schools did your decision come down to?
McMinn: It really came down to Iowa and BC as the final ones. After seeing Iowa maybe two or three weeks ago, it just felt right to me. They had all of the checkmarks there to what I wanted. They have a stable coaching staff with Coach Ferentz, great people in the program, and they have what I want to do academically. Then they have the Midwest values and work ethic that I really like. They're not trying to round up people from the farthest parts of the country because they're pleased with what they can find here. They just want to get down to work and line up against you and see if you can beat them. It's just hard-nosed football and that's what I like.
As a junior, McMinn collected 67 tackles, 11 sacks, and 18 TFL in leading Rochester High School to a 12-1 record.
The three-star prospect chose Iowa over scholarship offers from Boston College, Illinois, Wisconsin, Kansas, Minnesota, Indiana, and Memphis, among others.
McMinn is the tenth verbal commitment for the Hawkeyes in the Class of 2011.
