Showers gaining national attention
For months now, Madison Heights (Mich.) Madison cornerback prospect Valdez Showers has been regarded as one of the state's top players, and now his reputation is reaching throughout the Midwest and beyond.
Showers (5-11, 181) holds offers from in-state heavyweights Michigan and Michigan State, while a couple of the Wolverines' and Spartans' Big Ten foes, Northwestern and Wisconsin, have come through with offers, too. But his most recent interest comes from outside the Midwest, as Auburn has added its name to his offer sheet.
"I feel pretty good about it. The coaches were telling me that they will recruit up here in the cold area, so I felt pretty good knowing that," Showers said of his offer from the Tigers. "And as far as it being from far away, that lets you know something is going right, being looked at from somewhere down south."
Showers' national attention doesn't start and end with Auburn, however.
"Florida just got a part of it. They called Friday, I believe, and talked to Coach Drake (Wilkins). I haven't spoke with them yet; I have to get the number and call," Showers said. "But them, and I've been contacted by UCLA a little bit; we're going back and forth. And Illinois and Iowa and Notre Dame.
"With Illinois, Notre Dame and Iowa, I believe they're coming close to offering, and with Florida, I just kind of got in touch with them."
