Holmes takes in first Super Bulldog Weekend
2010 linebacker signee Christian Holmes made the trip up from his home in Puckett, Miss., for his first Super Bulldog Weekend.
The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder was already envisioning himself suiting up at Mississippi State in the fall as he watched the spring game last Saturday.
"I liked the physicality," Holmes said. "It's so much like Puckett. Every time I watch them play defense, offense or special teams I just picture myself out there in that maroon and white. It's unexplainable. This was my first time to come up for Super Bulldog Weekend. A couple friends of mine, Cameron Lawrence and Jamie Jones, both did very well."
Of course Holmes will be competing with Lawrence, Jones and a whole host of others for the lone opening in the linebacking corps left by Jamar Chaney. Holmes is hoping to come in and vie for playing time in his first season.
"I'm going to see if I can get out there as a true freshman," Holmes said. "That's my goal and I'm working hard now. Baseball is almost over and I'm preparing myself mentally and physically to get the job done."
Saturday was also the first time Holmes has gotten a glimpse of what he can expect out of the scheme brought in by new defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Manny Diaz.
