Offer on the way for Texas defensive end

Like many students across the country, Cleveland (Tex.) defensive end Cedric Reed is taking a breather from school on his spring break. Once school is back in session next week however, a scholarship offer from USC should be one of the first things to welcome him back.

"It's probably at the school," Reed said while on his spring break. "Maybe it's still in the mail. I'm just waiting to get to school to see if I have it. I don't know if they faxed it over or sent it to my house. I just saw on Rivals that I had one."

With the Trojans' coaching staff also on spring break, communication with Reed has been tough. In spite of this, Reed plans on finding time to discuss the offer at some point next week.

"I haven't been in touch with them yet," he said. "When I come back from spring break I'll give them a call."

Although Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma are usually fighting over the best products the state has to offer, Reed is interested in what the Trojans have to offer.

"They're the dominate team in California," he said. "I have some interest in them. They have tradition and it's a big city. They're the USC Trojans, the put out people like Reggie Bush and Matt Barkley."

Being far away from home is not the biggest concern for the Rivals 250 Watch list selection.

"No, distance is not a factor," Reed said. "The main thing is the relationship with the coach. The location is a big deal too."

Holding a host of offers from around the Big 12 and across the country, Reed is taking his spring break to relax instead of laying down a timetable for his decision.

"Not at the moment," he said about a decision. "I haven't really sat down to think about it in awhile. But in terms of a decision it will be sooner rather than later.

"I'm looking at them all right now. As far as the out of state schools, Notre Dame offered me. Vanderbilt and USC and that's pretty much it for out of state schools."
