Arvada West tackle holds CSU offer

Arvada West High School Offensive Tackle Marc Mustoe has a pretty good idea of what he is looking for in a college and a college town. The 6-foot-7, 270-pound road grader is looking for a community that will offer him more than a chance to play football.

"I am looking for three things in a college," Mustoe said. "They are a good church in the area, the education of the college and then the football program."

Mustoe, who said he is Presbyterian, and is looking for a Major in Architecture. He said he is looking for a football program that will work with the school and understands the importance of academics. Mustoe also posted a 3.8 grade-point average and will take the SAT on Saturday.

On the field, Mustoe was a Second Team All-Conference selection for Arvada West last year as they went 11-2 and made it to the Colorado State Semifinals. Mustoe moves fast for a big man, posting a 5.3 time in the 40-yard dash, while posting a 260-pound bench press and a 410-pound squat.

"Marc has a big frame, long arms, and can easily add another 30 pounds," said Arvada West coach Guy Thurston. "He is athletic for a big guy and has a nasty streak. Marc is a good kid with solid character who works hard and wants to learn the game. He needs to continue to improve his strength levels and flexibility, but his upside is huge."

While Mustoe said distance from home won't be a factor in his college decision, he did pick up his second scholarship offer last week from the in-state Colorado State Rams.

"Coach Fairchild offered me and I was pretty excited about that," Mustoe said. "It is great to get an offer from them because Colorado State because it would be a good option. I enjoy watching the rivalry game between CU and CSU. That is a fun one to watch. The reason I have been leaning more towards CSU is because I have some friends at CSU."

In addition to the offer from Colorado State, Mustoe has a free ride waiting for him at Kansas State. He is also hearing from Colorado, Utah, Wisconsin and Arizona.

"(Coaches) have been saying they like my height, weight and the fact I move very well for my size. They say I have a good frame," Mustoe said.
