Shumpert excited to be a Hawkeye
When safety Don Shumpert verbally committed to Iowa back in August, he had only been on campus a couple of times. Since then, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound Shumpert has been to his first game in Kinnick Stadium and recently made his official visit to Iowa City. Now, the St. Louis native says he is even more excited to be a Hawkeye.
Q: How did it all go this past weekend?
SHUMPERT: It went real well. We got to tour the facilities, the academic center, talk to the coaches, eat a lot of food, and all of that. It was real nice.
Q: Who was your host?
SHUMPERT: Marvin McNutt.
Q: What was a highlight of the weekend for you or maybe something you hadn't seen before?
SHUMPERT: I got to meet a lot of the players and talk to them. I got to see the city more and I liked that a lot. Everybody is so friendly.
Q: Going back to November, you were in town for the Minnesota game. Was that your first game at Kinnick? What did you think?
SHUMPERT: Yeah, that was my first game. The atmosphere was amazing. It was real exciting too see how much they're behind their team. They're very supportive. I love all the fans.
As a senior, Shumpert finished with 79 tackles on defense and also had 45 catches for 736 yards and eight touchd owns as a wide receiver. In August, the three-star prospect verbally committed to Iowa over scholarship offers from Minnesota and Illinois.
