2011 DT impressed by Tide title

Westfield-Houston defensive tackle Desmond Jackson had some mixed emotions watching the BCS National Championship game that featured Alabama and Texas. That is because the 6-foot-1, 270-pounder has plenty of ties to both programs.

"My family is really right down the middle when it comes to Alabama and Texas. My dad's side is all Alabama. He is from Oneonta originally, and pretty much all of his family is still there," said Jackson. "He moved to Texas when he joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Hood. That is where he met my mother, and all of her family are big Texas fans.

"We watched the game at the hotel in San Antonio when we were there for the U.S. Army All-American game, and it was really tense because I do really like both schools a lot. My dad was all Alabama but I like them both. Alabama just got after it early and knocked Colt (McCoy) out of the game. That was a big part of the game, but they still had to finish and that is what they did. It was incredible to watch the game in that atmosphere. I really want to play football in a high level environment like that one day."

As for the Combine, Jackson was dominating.
"I thought I did really well at the Army Combine. I have a lot of different moves that I use to get by offensive linemen. I pretty much pulled out all of the stops because I wanted to prove I belonged with the best in the country," said Jackson. "I don't think I really got beat once. I used my quickness to my advantage.

"It is good to get early attention and for people to think that you are one of the best prospects in the country, but I have to keep working and prove that I belong there."
Jackson is looking forward to some upcoming visits in the near future.

"I will probably make it to one of Alabama's Junior Days. I am going to make it up to Texas as well soon. I am waiting on both of those schools to offer for sure because those are two programs I am very interested in," said Jackson. "LSU seems like they are close to offering as well."

Jackson currently holds offers from Baylor, Texas A & M, Stanford, Houston, Oklahoma, Arkansas and TCU.
