Exactly alldayred. Fans like you are part of the problem. You are part of the reason Nebraska basketball sucks. Should I give you the numbers on doc? I assure you they won't way in your favor or support your garbage opinion. Doc is the best we can do. Lmao!!

Yes please, give me the numbers on Doc and the previous 2 head basketball coaches here. (please) what you guys fail to understand to become a "PROGRAM" doesn't happen in the last 6 years. Us losing and not being able to generate 4 and 5 star recruits comes from years and years of basketball not being important to the state. It's just not Doc's fault at all.

Posted on 2/16 9:47 AM | IP: Logged

Whoever it is NU hires, it is probably going to need to commit at least $2.8 mil/yr to coaches' salaries. Minimum.

Dana's making $1.8M per at Oregon, and he didn't get Kevin McKenna (who he'd have to take w/him, I'm sure) to leave a head coaching job at Indiana State for less than probably $450k, maybe $500k/yr. That leaves $500-600k for what, three other bball staff members, including a DOBO? I seriously think that number is pretty close. But if T.O. can commit those kind of dollars, NU will be able to attract a QUALITY candidate!

Posted on 2/16 10:27 AM | IP: Logged

The expectations just aren't that great for this program. Hell, people would have been just happy seeing some sort of improvement under doc. But guess what, there has been none!! A losing record in your sixth year especially after 5 mediocre years? See ya doc!! Nobody is even asking for four or five star players. But one would also have to think wtf when you see a coach recruit guys like Niemann, chapman, Coleman etc....doc has failed at not only recruiting solid high school talent te development of our players have been poor. This doesn't even mention his inability to coach offense, pissing down his pants late in games, or his mind boggling substitution patterns. Year 6 has been a major fail and year 7 looks even worse? Haha....yeah that's not docs fault. See ya doc!

Please!!!!!!!! A program is built from good coaching! It takes less than 6 years to accomplish a winning mentality with a program. Your reasoning for backing Doc is completely ridiculous. His recruiting is half-assed and his development of players is less than mediocre and his coaching philosophy is completely irrelevant. Please, forget him not being able to generate 5 star recruits how can you have the best defense in the country and the worse offense?? I give Doc no excuses he has had the talent to win at Nebraska he has done nothing with that talent.

Posted on 2/16 5:37 PM | IP: Logged

What was your so called "good talented" team Doc has had?

Posted on 2/16 10:38 PM | IP: Logged

Hilarious, so doc hasn't had much talent? Okay, I can give you that. But then again who is responsible t bringing in talent? Surely not the head coach right? One thing is for sure. We have had better talent than docs stellar conference records and his road records. Maybe if doc wasn't out recruiting the pings and chapmans he would still have a job next year. But then again, doc would still crumble under pressure late in games and would still have no idea on how to get a offense going.

I'm still waiting on your "talented team"?

Posted on 2/17 1:32 PM | IP: Logged

eric mussellman ..connections in the nba..d league coach now..
just throwing it out there...so fire away

Posted on 2/17 1:59 PM | IP: Logged

Talent or no talent....whose responsibility is it to recruit players to Nebraska? Waiting on your answer.

I have been a fan for over 40 years. We haven't been very good for more than 3 or 4 of them. We can't keep starting over every six years. Not sure what it is going to take. The five best basketball players on the football team would school this team. Dr. Tom won't spend the money. Get ready for six more years of hope and disappointment. If you were a top division 1 player, why would you come to Lincoln? Nebraska Basketball is a Joke!

Posted on 2/22 7:44 PM | IP: Logged

If you get the right coach players will come..... New facilities, power six conference. Spend the money get a coach kids would love playing for there will definitely be a turn around. The style of coaching alone will bring recruits.

Posted on 2/23 3:29 AM | IP: Logged

OK, I am a football follower first and foremost. Played HS basketball and have had men's BB season tickets for 10 yrs. I don't know diddly about X's and O's or who the next coach should be or what we should pay him. What I don't understand is the naysayers who say we can't be successful in basketball. I get that we don't have any tradition. We didn't have much tradition in FB before Devaney got here. I get that our high schools don't put out much D1 basketball talent. How much HS talent was around in volleyball before Terry Pettit arrived. NE now produces more D1 VB recruits per capita than any state in the country! Don't tell me kids in this state don't grow up wanting to play for NE FB or VB, and work harder than they otherwise might to make that dream come true. The point is, with the right guy THIS CAN WORK! We are in a great BB conference. We will have some of the best facilities not just in the BIG 10 but the entire country for the next several years. And finally, the expectations here aren't that high. Seriously, as a season ticket holder I would be happy if we could consistently go somewhere between 18-12 and 22-8, finish at .500 or better in the conference, and play a decent non-con schedule. Occasionaly maybe a little better than that, make the NCAA tourney most years and maybe actually win a tourney game once in awhile. That doesn't seem like too much to ask. Maybe that's the crux of the problem right there. Maybe our expectations aren't HIGH enough and all the good coaches see that.

I just feel like now is our time to go for it. If this thing takes off we'll soon be counting the sellout streak in BB just like we do in FB and VB. The guy who pulls it off will become an icon in this state just like BD,TO, and TP. It would seem to me we have a lot to offer.

But what the hell do I know...

Ahhhh yes. More proof doc is the best we can do! Awesome 34 point performance vs Msu. Good call alldayred!

The Husker next MBB coach is: Mike Dunlap because he basicly only coach that "Dr. Football God" (The Supreme Husker Deity) and "King Harvey" (The Supreme Ruler Of Lincoln, Nebraska) can get with the money they like to spend on MBB Team.

Hey, Mike Dunlap has won a pair of D-2 titles, but he is really short for an basketball coach.

If you remember prior to Oregon hiring Altman they went after Izzo and offered him something like 4 million a year, will Osborne pay that kind of money?

I don't think Doc should be fired after 1 year in a new conference but in the event he is Nebraska should try to get Keno Davis.

Alldayred is awfully silent now isn't he???

College basketball is all about a coach's built in recruiting connections, not location. John calipari for example could take the Nebraska job and they would have the #1 recruiting class in the country next year. You get the right guy in their with the great relationships and connections, players will come.

Let's move this topic to the top of the list - funny how I started this thread in December.

Posted on 3/9 3:05 PM | IP: Logged

A few things I think NU should do.

1. Keno Davis. Quality coach. Did not mesh well out east but has a fun exciting style.

2. Ben Jacobson. The mastermind behind everything McDermott did at UNI. Guy can coach.

3. Go Iowa State route and get a former player who would have some passion for the program. Sometimes it takes a guy who loves the program, who is smart, and who wants that job. Not doing it for the money.

4. For the record. Bruce Pearl is on some sort of Show Cause suspension.

Just my opinion. Would be interested to see what you think. Without flaming me that is.

Posted on 3/9 6:39 PM | IP: Logged

Bring Bob Knight in for 3-4 years with a young gun recruiter. Knight knows the Big 10, runs a clean program, and is a proven winner. Put an assistant head coach with him that he picks who will take the program over when Knight retires.

Nebraska, now being in the B10 really needs to anti up on your new coach. Picking up a no-name isn't going to get you any better than you had with Doc.

Posted on 3/9 7:44 PM | IP: Logged

You shoud get Doug Wocik from Tulsa. He has the most wins of any coach at Tusla history; Tubby Smith, Nolan Richardson, Bill Self, . . .

My fear is that Osborne would never hire him because he's not a Christian zealot and has baggage. Me?? I could care less, I just pine for a day that I can get excited about Nebraska basketball again. It's been SO long since Depreis Owens was throwing down two hand dunks and Chris Creswell was bombing three's.

Bruce Pearl!!!

The Christian part of your argument will not have bearing in AD Osborne's decision but...Bruce Pearl's baggage will...and he will NEVER even get an interview at Nebraska for this opening, let alone be hired.

Bruce Pearl is NOT a trustworthy person for ANY SCHOOL! He has proven that. And there is still the issue of the NCAA sanctions against him through 2014. Which still include the "Show Cause" penalty from Mr. Pearl's University of Tennessee Violations, which would follow him to Nebraska.

His Character Flaws, factored with when his Tennessee Violations happened and his age. This is who he is. Commiting NCAA violations, lying about it to his superiors, getting caught lying, and then lying again, and getting caught again...this is not the behavior nor risk that will be acceptable to AD Osborne, Mr. Pearlman or the Board of Regents. The risk is to high, he will not be the one!

I agree, Keno Davis is a good candidate to talk to.

Posted on 3/10 9:18 AM | IP: Logged

Keno Davis would accept around 750k and our search is looking at candidates (in some cases) who will be looking for double. If we take Davis then our search has failed.
