Pros: Slay is one of the most physical, hard-hitting safeties in this draft and set a Big 12 record in 2005 with eight forced fumbles. He plays faster than he times and has good range from playing a center field free safety spot. He displays powerful tackling, fine instincts and a passion for the game. He can track down and make plays on the ball with good range and instincts to get to the runner. He can help out on all special teams.
Cons: He is only a one-year starter and has the look of weak-side linebacker. He is only a marginal backup in a base defense until he improves his coverage skills.
Numbers: At the Combine, he ran terrible times of 4.82 and 4.84 seconds in the 40-yard dash. He did not lift due to a shoulder injury. He had 9’4” broad jump and 32.5" vertical jump.
Skinny: He is a good special teams defender and possible nickel backer with development. His weak combine performance will probably push him to a free agent grade.
