CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Miami tailback Tyrone Moss will miss the rest of the season and have surgery Monday on a torn ligament in his left knee.

He was injured in the third-ranked Hurricanes' 27-7 victory Saturday over Virginia Tech. His knee buckled while he was being tackled by two defenders.

Doctors made the preliminary ligament-tear diagnosis that night, and a subsequent MRI confirmed the severity of the injury.

Moss had 701 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. Charlie Jones will replace him as Miami's starter. Jones ran for a career-high 97 yards against Virginia Tech.
