Nebraska landed the majority of their commits over the summer months, but things had been relatively quiet since the end of August.
"I just committed to Nebraska," Kalu said. "I called Coach Joseph tonight and he was ecstatic about it. I haven't had a chance to talk to any of the other coaches just yet."
The 6-foot-1, 169-pound defensive back visited Lincoln in September and said all signs had been pointing towards the Huskers ever since. Everything he saw on the visit met or exceeded his standards and after discussing it with family and coaches he decided to commit tonight.
He specifically mentioned the fact that NU was recruiting him as a nickelback and the feeling he got from the current players and fans as deciding factors.
"The defensive scheme, the players themselves as far as the way they get along, and the atmosphere was real nice," Kalu said about Nebraska. "I talked it over with my parents and my sister about how much I liked it. I've been talking it over with my coaches too ever since (my visit) and I finally came to the conclusion that it was the right fit."
Kalu had previously stated he planned to take more official visits, but said he didn't have anything planned now that he's committed.
"I don't know, I haven't really thought about it," Kalu said. "My parents want me to just to see whatever else is out there and enjoy the recruiting process, but I don't know. I don't have anything planned though."
Now that he's officially a Husker, Kalu said he may try to recruit some other players into joining him in Lincoln.
"If they are a good player, why not try to bring them with me to Lincoln," Kalu said. "As of now, I don't have any (specific players) in mind. I'm going to try and bring some to Lincoln with me though."
