Huskers nab Washington
Darrien Washington has announced that she will be playing her college ball at the University of Nebraska. Averaging 9.8 points and 9.2 rebounds a game over her career, Washington became a standout for the Titans. With her size advantage, she averaged 3.1 blocks a game and really made a difference on defense.A senior girls basketball player out of Skyline High School in Oakland has made her college decision. 6-foot-3 center
"I just felt Nebraska was the perfect fit for me. I liked the academic aspect at the school as well," said Washington. "I fell in love with the staff and players. They were so nice that I felt right at home".
Washington wants to build upon her amazing junior year as well. Her team went 17-10 and 7-3 in league play. All three years playing for the Titans, Washington has bettered herself as a player. Her sophomore year on varsity was decent as she shot 50 percent from the field, adding four percentage points junior year up to 54.
"My goals for this season are to expand my game and broaden my horizons. I want to contribute as much as I can to my team," Washington said.
Nebraska will be playing in a brand new complex this year at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Missing the NCAA tournament last year, the Huskers will look to get back to the big dance. If Washington continues on her path of improvement, she should be able to contribute heavily to the Huskers as soon as she arrives.
