December 7, 2012Four-Star DT Justin Manning said A&M's current recruiting class sold him on the Aggies. Watch the commitment ceremony and the one-on-one interview with A&M's newest commit.
"Gig 'em. You know what I'm saying," said Manning, with a huge smile on his face
"I bonded with them (Oklahoma players and prospects) but could not remember none of their names," he said. "There were two corners from Florida. At A&M, there was Quiv (Gonzalez, Cedar Hill receiver), all of the defensive linemen. I really bonded with Damontre Moore (A&M defensive end). I bonded with the corner from Mesquite (Devante Harris). I bonded with all of the players. I just knew those guys from camps, just looking at newspapers, looking at Rivals. I look at their highlights, stuff like that.
Manning stated that there wasn't a "moment" that he knew that it was A&M, that he just sort of "eased" into decision. However, he admitted that if there was a "moment", it came during an in-home visit that he received from A&M assistant coach David Beaty a week ago Monday. Beaty was Manning's primary recruiter throughout the process.
"It was a good relationship towards the end," he said. "I'm not really good for meeting new people it's kind of hard for me to trust someone. Towards the end, we started getting real comfortable, started joking around, started talking about girlfriends, school, teachers."
"When I told my mom, she was excited," he said. "She really liked A&M when we went down there. She said that it was closer than Oklahoma. It would be easier for her to get to the games. She was all just excited for it."
