March 28, 2012Steven Daniels has never played a down of football for Boston College and he hasn't attended school in Ohio for a while. Nonetheless, his association with the BC football program may help the Eagles with another important recruit from the state.
This week EagleAction.com caught up with Keith Watkins, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound running back from Moeller High School in Ohio.
Rated three-stars, Watkins has offers from Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Northwestern, West Virginia and Boston College, among others. He spoke about his thoughts on Boston College at length.
"I haven't talked to them recently but that's just because I'm just getting out of basketball and I've been taking a break from everything," Watkins explained.
"I talked to them when they offered me. I think it was last month sometime. I believe it was my fourth offer.
"One of my friends is going there, Steven Daniels. He went to St. Xavier. I'm going to have to start talking to him. I know he'll tell me what I want to hear. Once I get there hopefully he'll be able to show me around."
While Watkins wants to visit BC he has a few other visits in mind first.
"This week I'll be going to UC (Cincinnati) to watch their spring practice on Saturday. Then possibly next week I'll be visiting Kentucky for their spring practice as well."
So far Watkins has been to Cincinnati, Kentucky and Ohio State.
He discussed each of those trips and his thoughts on each school.
"I really liked it at Kentucky. I felt real comfortable with the coaches and they made me feel like I was the type of guy they wanted on their team," he said. "When I was up there I received an offer from Coach (Joker) Phillips. I sat down and talked to him with my family and I felt real good up there.
"It was real nice at Ohio State as well. There were a lot of talented athletes up there that they're recruiting. The coach from UC that was recruiting me is at Ohio State now. He'll be recruiting me there and I talked to him last week. He said they're going to take everything slow and try to get me up there again, most likely for their spring practice.
"Cincinnati, that's the hometown (school). If I don't have anything going on I can call on the coaches and ask them if I can come up there. They always say I can come chill with the team or go through and watch some film with them. It's like 20 minutes away from my house so I can always go there when I'm free. I like it up there."
