NC State sophomore cornerback David Amerson has been named to the 2011 Walter Camp All-American first-team after a season in which he paced the country with 11 interceptions.
The native of Greensboro, N.C. is taking part at the College Football Award show tonight on ESPN, starting at 9 p.m. He is one of three national finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, which honors the nation's top defensive back - the winner will be announced tonight.
Amerson was also honored with the 2011 Jack Tatum Award, which is given to the nation's top defensive back. He tied an ACC record for interceptions and recorded four more picks than any other player in the country. He broke the school record, which had stood since 1938, against North Carolina on Nov. 5.
The star defender is already tied for fourth all-time on the FBS all-time interceptions list. The all-time record is 14.
Only three other players in program history have been named to the Walter Camp first-team; the young cornerback is the first in 32 years. Other NC State players honored were defensive end Dennis Byrd (1967), center Jim Ritcher (1979) and offensive guard Bill Yoest (1973).
